Piquet GP was a Brazilian registered motor racing team, that competed in the FIA GP2 Series between 2005 and 2009.[1] Originally founded as Piquet Sports in 2000 by Brazilian racing legend Nelson Piquet, Piquet GP would go on to finish as runners-up to ART Grand Prix in the 2006 Teams' Championship, while Nelson Piquet Jr. finished as runner-up to Lewis Hamilton in the same campaign.[2]

Piquet GP would join the GP2 Series ahead of the inaugural 2005 season, forming a partnership with British based Hitech Grand Prix.[3] The squad would run Piquet Jr. and Alexandre Negrão for their maiden season, with the eponymous Piquet going on to claim the team's first win at the 2005 Spa Feature Race en-route to eighth in the Championship.[4]

For 2006 there would be no changes to the Piquet GP line-up, although they did sever ties with Hitech and run their own outfit.[5] That, however, did little to upset the team, with Piquet going on to challenge for the Championship, finishing runner-up to Hamilton, with Piquet GP likewise finishing as runners-up in the Teams' Championship.[2]

2007 saw Piquet Sports merge with Racing GP, which saw the team rebranded as Minardi Piquet Sports for the season.[6] Yet, the new identity, combined with a poor season for new line-up Negrão and Roldán Rodríguez, saw the Italian registered squad slump to eleventh in the Championship.[7]

The 2008 campaign saw Piquet GP drop the Minardi name from their moniker, while also hiring a new driver pairing of Pastor Maldonado and Andreas Zuber.[8] The new line-up would propel the Brazilian squad back to the top end of the field, with Maldonado claiming a single victory to leave the team in third in the Championship.[9]

The 2009 season would see Alberto Valerio join the squad, while Rodríguez rejoined the team for a final run at the main series.[10] However, while Valerio claimed another win for the team, come the end of the season Piquet GP had slipped back to seventh in the Championship.[11]

At the end of the 2009 season the Piquet GP team was sold to Gianfranco and Valter Sovernigo, who rebranded the team as Rapax.[12]
