Stefano Coletti (born 6 April 1989 in La Colle, Monaco) is a Monegasque racing driver, who competed in the FIA GP2 Series between 2009 and 2014.[1] A driver with a respectable reputation before he joined GP2, Coletti would claim a best Championship finish of fifth overall, claiming seven victories, while also competing in the GP2 Asia Series.[1]
Coletti made his GP2 debut at the 2009 Valencia Feature Race, joining Durango for two rounds in place of Davide Valsecchi.[2] Yet, the Monegasque racer would make little more than a cameo appearance in his four races, retiring from two and failing to start one.[2] Indeed, his only classified finish, the 2009 Spa Feature Race, saw Coletti crash heavily with two laps to go, leaving the Monegasque racer with compressed vertebrae that ended his 2009 season prematurely.[3]
After taking a seat in the inaugural GP3 Series championship in 2010, Coletti obtained a full season seat in the GP2 Series for 2011, joining Trident Racing.[4] Coletti duly won the second race of the season in Istanbul, before collecting another win in Hungary, only to have another huge accident at Spa and again suffer from compressed vertebrae that ended his season early.[5]
Fully recovered in time for the 2012 season, Coletti joined Coloni Motorsport for the campaign.[6] Unfortunately for the Monegasque racer it would be a less spectacular season, prompting him to make a late-season switch to Rapax in preparation for the following campaign.[7]
Indeed, Rapax would run Coletti for the entire 2013 season, with the Monegasque racer going on to repay their faith instantly with victory in the 2013 Sepang Sprint Race.[8] Two further Sprint race victories would follow as Coletti emerged as a title pretender, although a pointless second half of the season saw Coletti slip down to fifth in the Championship.[9]
The 2014 season saw Racing Engineering sign Coletti, with the Monegasque racer opening the season in the points.[1] Coletti went on to claim two victories, including the season finale in Yas Marina, which left him in sixth place in the Championship.[10]
After that Coletti left the GP2 Series, taking a full season seat in the IndyCar Series for 2015.[11] He would go on to race in the European Le Mans Series and International GT Open Championship, while also getting a one-off appearance in the renamed FIA Formula 2 Championship in 2017.[12]
